Ben Yoo Department: Electrical and Computer Engineering Department We are using OPNET for: Research Performance Evaluation of Optical Packet-Switched Network In this work, we design the architecture of an optical packet switch and implement the network node in OPNET modeler. Through network-wdie simulations, we investigate various contention resolution schemes in time, wavelength, and space domains. With the help of self-similar traffic module in OPNET, we also explore the effect of traffic aggregation and  propose a traffic shaping algorithm to improve network performance. Most of the discussions are in the physical layer and will cover relationship between the physical network implementation and the higher-level network architecture. The course includes wavelength-division-multiplexing (WDM) networking, time-division-multiplexing (TDM) networking, and the Next-Generation Internet.
