J. Ben Yoo (Electrical and\nComputer Engineering) wins a new project from iARPA to pursue silicon\nelectronic photonic integrated circuits in three dimensions (3D-EPIC) to create\na new generation of systems-on-chip for future artificial intelligence and\nneuromorphic computing (FAINCING) with ~100\u00c3\u2014 higher throughput and ~100\u00c3\u2014 higher\nenergy-efficiency compared to the state of the art.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The newly proposed 3D EPIC also supports fundamentally\ndifferent computing architectures for AI and neuromorphic computing.&nbsp; (a) Optoelectronic neuromorphic computing,\n(b) optically reconfigurable computing, and (c) a new generation of\ncomputing-in-memory architectures.&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This new project has launched on September 24, with\nsuccessful progress leading to $2.4M payments two phases.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Distinguished Professor S.
